Medication-Assisted Treatment

As we continue to focus on National Recovery Month in this blog, we will now provide information on medication-assisted treatment that is offered here at Main St. Psychiatry. We are treating opioid addiction with Suboxone, which is a “partial opioid agonist”. This means that Suboxone attaches to the opioid receptors in the brain without producing a euphoric high, but with the goal of reducing or eliminating withdrawal symptoms and cravings.

However, the use of Suboxone alone may not provide enough support and assistance for individuals to overcome opioid addiction. Medication-assisted treatment at Main St. Psychiatry also includes mandatory monthly (or more frequent) counseling and education to ensure that individuals struggling with opioid addiction are given the time and opportunity to process their addiction in a supportive environment. Evidence shows that individuals quitting “cold turkey” are not likely to be successful, as recovery from addiction involves changing thoughts, feelings, and behavior.

At Main St. Psychiatry we value an individualized approach to treatment for all of our patients. We also recognize the significant impact of addiction on our patients and their families, as well as the community at large. If you or someone you love is struggling with addiction and/or mental health issues, please reach out to us so that we can give you the information and support you need to move forward on a path to recovery.
